At this point, I had not baked a cake in several years, but I was up to the challenge. My son loved Elmo, so I made him an Elmo cake for his birthday. It was a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. I initially did not tell anyone I had made the cake because I wanted to get their opinion without knowing I made it. I remember being asked where I ordered the cake from because they loved it. My son is 8 years old now and I have made every one of his birthday cakes since then; along with his two little sisters.
